Mission

To provide a safe venue for our community and visitors so they can enjoy the pursuit of nordic skiing.  To promote the activity of nordic skiing as a healthy, enjoyable environmentally friendly activity that encourages people to get outdoors and to appreciate the natural world.

History

The Hinton Nordic Centre has gone through a transition.  The Nordic Centre was originally built by the dedication of local volunteers with a focus on racing in 1985 and was heavily subsidised by government grants for its operation.  The land encompassing the Nordic Centre was designated a special place in 2001 and incorporated into Switzer Park.  Government support has continually eroded and the facility has been forced to evolve in order to become self sufficient.  This has had the positive effect in forcing the club to undergo a redesign of the facility to make it more attractive to its present core of support, the recreational skier.  An investment in new infrastructure has made us more efficient and inexpensive to operate.   2010-11 has proved to be a very successful year showing us that our present direction is on track and can be sustainable.

Vision for the future

To continue to operate the centre at its current high level of service to its members and visitors in an economically sustainable manner that can be enjoyed today and into the future.  We will continue to promote ourselves as a group campsite to become a year round facility but our priority will be to provide an excellent skiing experience with quality and timely grooming for the recreational skier.  As well we will maintain our world class race facility in order host races to raise the profile of the sport in the community and for revenue generation.  We will encourage the next generation into the activity through the promotion of the jackrabbit and youth development programs.   We will reach out to government and the community to forge partnerships to ensure our long term viability.
